About the Author

Dane E. Ericksen, P.E., CSRTE, 8-VSB, CBNT
Mr. Ericksen has been a consulting engineer with the firm of Hammett & Edison, Inc. in San Francisco, CA since 1982. He previously worked at the FCC from 1970 to 1982 as an inspector. Ericksen is a former member of the board of directors of the Society of Broadcast Engineers and is a member of the SBE Certification Committee.

Douglas W. Garlinger, CPBE, 8-VSB, CBNT
Mr. Garlinger's career in broadcasting spans more than 35 years. For 23 years, he served as director of engineering of LeSea Broadcasting in Indianapolis, IN. Other stops in has career have included senior broadcast engineer at Qualcomm MediaFlo, director of engineering and operations at KHON-TV2/KGMB-TV9 in Honolulu, RF engineering manager at Mt. Wilson, CA for NBC-owned-and-oprated KNBC-TV, KVEA-TV and KWHY-TV. He currently serves as engineering maintenance supervisor at WRTV-6 in Indianapolis, IN. Garlinger is a member of the SBE Certification Committee and is the author of the SBE Introduction to DTV-RF.

Joe Snelson, Jr. CPBE, 8-VSB
Based in Las Vegas, NV, Mr. Snelson is vice president and director of engineering for the Meredith Broadcasting Group, a position he has held since 1998. Previously, Snelson has served as director of engineering for KCTV, the Meredith station in Kansas City, MO, and as chief engineer of KYFC-TV, Kansas City. He is the vice presdent of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, chairs the society's frequency coordination committee and is a member of the SBE Certification Committee.
