Gr 2-4-Dalton provides a basic definition and introduction to each of these scientific concepts. She includes facts about the individuals most popularly associated with the topic. Each spread contains one page of large-print text opposite a full-color photograph or illustration that adds a little visual interest but doesn't really help to clarify or extend the concepts. In spite of the titles, students who are looking for scientific experiments will be disappointed with these books. Young or struggling readers who are looking for just a bit of information on a topic will probably find enough here to get them started. The gentle, nonthreatening questions may encourage them to develop an awareness of the world around them and may lead them to seek out more complex titles, but these thin books don't provide enough meat to satisfy them for long.-Dona J.
