Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772) was a Swedish scientist, philosopher, theologian, and mystic whose work has had a lasting impact on religious thought. Originally trained as a scientist and inventor, Swedenborg made significant contributions to fields such as astronomy, anatomy, and engineering. However, his life took a profound turn in his mid-fifties when he began experiencing vivid spiritual visions that led him to explore the nature of the afterlife, the human soul, and the deeper meanings of Christian scripture.

Swedenborg’s later years were devoted to writing a series of theological works that present his unique interpretations of Christianity, including Heaven and Hell, Divine Love and Wisdom, and his final masterpiece, True Christian Religion. In these writings, he outlined a vision of a more spiritually enlightened world and established the foundations of what would later be known as the Swedenborgian Church.
