Editorial Reviews

JUNE 2012 - AudioFile

Walter Cronkite not only embodies the epitome of the term “anchorman,” he was one of the first broadcast journalists to be called one. He clearly was a giant in the field. So who better to read his biography than George Guidall, a giant in audiobooks? Cronkite led a never-a-dull moment life. Guidall captures that excitement without becoming fawning or with false emotion. Author Douglas Brinkley offers plenty of details about the newsman's life and times, and Guidall renders them as if he were conversing with the listener, not simply reading a book. He doesn’t try to imitate Cronkite’s voice, even in direct quotes, but his easy-on-the-ears voice renders that point irrelevant. Yet he carries an appropriately serious tone when needed, as well.
