Robb's latest crime caper finds Lt. Eve Dallas in the center of a murder investigation that stinks of satanic ritual and the occult. The writing itself is fairly solid, but Susan Erickson's reading is beyond corny and over the top. A veteran reader of the previous Robb titles, Erickson leaps into character from the get-go, shouting her way through the first few pages in an annoying tone that lacks any real emotion and pounds at the eardrums of the audience. Her melodramatic reading sounds like something out of a low-budget soap opera. This novella was published in the 2008 Berkley paperback anthology Suite 606. (Nov.)
