When Aiden’s partner is killed in a shoot-out, he heads home to decide what to do with his life, temporarily replacing the chief of police. Jolene is told her mother may have cancer and goes north to help her. With little to return to in L.A., Jolene and Aiden consider giving in to their families’ attempts to reunite them. A little meta humor (“If this were a romance novel”) lightens what could have been a saccharine tale.
