This work, The Voyage Out was Virginia Woolf’s first novel. The novel was published in 1915 and was followed by Night and Day, published in 1919. The novel contains themes that were ahead of its time including sexuality, death, and female empowerment. Not surprisingly, Ms. Woolf’s novel was met with critical acclaim. One critic said, “No later novel of Woolf's will capture so brilliantly the excitement of youth.”
