Overview

Long years ago many cities were built high on a hill. They had great stone walls around them that stood as tall as three or four men. The walls were built to keep out enemies.
In those old days cities were each ruled by a different king or lord. These cities often went to war with one another. Each lord wanted more and more land, so he would try to capture the cities that were nearby.
The city of Andernach was a city like this. It sat high on a hill overlooking a beautiful valley. It also had one of these great walls around it.
There was only one gateway into the city. This gateway was guarded by strong iron doors. Just behind the doors lived a gatekeeper, who did nothing but open and shut the gates. He kept the gates closed unless someone wanted to come in. Then he made sure that whoever wanted to come in was friendly before he would open the gates.
He watched the gates well. No one could come in who was not friendly to the city.
Now it happened that, not far away, there was another walled city, named Lintz. The people of Lintz were the enemies of the people of Andernach.
They were always watching each other, and fought when they could get a chance. They would fight for any reason, big or small.
Now the people of Lintz planned to attack and capture the city of Andernach. They wanted to make the people of Andernach their slaves.
They called their wisest men together to see how the attack should be made.

Find out what happens when the people of Lintz attack the people of Andernach.
