Will and the Magic Snowman
Those who know me, know I am a “closet” lover of snow. One of my favorite things in the whole world is watching the snow fall on a cold day. It mesmerizes me. That’s why this book was so dear to me. I was imagining how I feel when the snow is delayed or later than usual in appearing. Little Will is really a lot like me. And the St. Paul Winter Carnival with the ice sculptures and snow statues is amazing. Who wouldn’t want to be here? Come along on an adventure with our hero, William, and enjoy the wonders of winter.

When Will moved to South Carolina, with his parents, I was sad to think he wouldn’t have the opportunity to enjoy winter and snow and snowmen. And then this winter, it actually snowed a couple of times for him. It must have had something to do with the creation of the book. He was delighted to be able to play in the snow, if only briefly. As you read the book, I hope you, too, will enjoy the wonders of winter, with Will. Will goes on an adventure with a Snowman and has fun playing around in the cold and snow. He sees ice sculptures and snow sculptures as part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Will and the Magic Snowman is illustrated in full watercolor and written in fun playful rhyming for kids and the whole family.

About the Author

Gloria (Fjare) Dunshee is originally from Ames, Iowa and educated at Iowa State University and graduated from The University of Minnesota with a B.A. in English. Gloria has been involved in several businesses as she raised her family:Seamstress/Taylor, Antique Doll Restoration, Rubber Stamp and Scrapbooking Teacher and Correspondant. Gloria has lived in Maplewood, Minnesota for over 39 years with her husband Wayne, a scientist/inventor at 3M. While she took care of her family, she watched the humorous things they did, and turned those observations into funny stories to their amusement and chagrin. Hundreds of people wait for her Christmas letter every year and are disappointed when they get dropped from the mailing list. Although these stories have been at their expense,(her husband and three children have given her lots to write about) they have still encouraged her to write more stories for the public to enjoy.

The reason and catalyst finally came with the birth of a grandson, William. Her daughter, Karne Dunshee McGary, mother of William, is an accomplished artist and graphic designer, and has always wanted to illustrate children's books. This book series is the perfect collaboration for Gloria and Karne. Collaboration became more difficult when Karne and William moved to Greenville, South Carolina to go with her husband who is now a professor of electrical engineering at Bob Jones University.
