Overview

The year is 1962. Andy Olson has just completed his freshman year in college at the University of Minnesota. He is bright and athletic, but naive and inexperienced. In search of adventure and romance, he decides to take a job as a busboy at the world famous Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. He is joined by his handsome, older, worldly cousin, Jared, who has a job at the Inn as a bellman. Two beautiful women soon lead them into a series of seemingly unresolvable conflicts. Andy finds himself working under an evil and sadistic boss, who attempts to dominate and even destroy him. Jared is forced to confront the downside of his addictive, playboy personality. In his search for adventure, Andy ends up in a handfull of nail-biting situations, including a real-life, "snatched-from-the-headlines" one. Jared must prevail in a courtroom drama, based on actual events, or his life will be ruined. The story is rich in historical detail related to Yellowstone, the world's first national park, as well as the mountain men and indians who once inhabited the area. The story is filled with vivid "wild west" characters, including an hispanic/indian "Don Juan" and a Sheepeater Shosone Indian with alleged mystical powers. Photos and true wildlife stories give a sense of what it is like to live and work in a natural wonderland.
