Baz Dreisinger, a prison teacher who founded the Prison-to-College Pipeline program in New York, became unnerved one day while teaching when she realized that prison had started to feel “normal.” To challenge her own complacency, she journeyed to nine countries to see how justice is practiced elsewhere, learning how each country's unique blend of history and culture is manifest in its criminal justice system. The audiobook contains explicit and difficult content, particularly related to prisoners and victims sharing their experiences, and Delaine doesn't shy away. Adjusting her tone, slowing her speech, playing with volume, Delaine is emphatic when driving home observations. A provocative, wide-ranging listen for those interested in prison reform.
