Overview

number eleven in the New TOM SWIFT Invention Adventures series.

Tom Swift sets aside a month during which he intends to make a series of design improvements in his tried-and-true seacopters. As he and Bud Barclay--his best friend--enjoy a few weeks of good old manual labor installing and testing his changes, trouble is brewing.

Old enemies make themselves known when a series of unexplainable forest fires break out in national forests that should be far out of fire season. Then, the stakes go much higher as a series of fires are set at petroleum storage facilities in Texas and California.

The first thing he must do is discover who, exactly is behind the fires, and what their overall intentions might be. Next, he must try to figure out how they are setting almost instantaneous fires over large areas. And then, he needs to come up with a way to put them out as fast as they appear.
Tom finds a way to harness two forces, one of which ought to make things much worse. The only thing going against him is a series of attempts on his life.

He is willing to shrug off most of them, but when his enemies begin to target his family and Enterprises employees, Tom decides to fight fire with fire.

PLEASE NOTE: There is an attendant story available that covers his great grandfather's attempts to create a flying firetruck back in about 1912-13. That invention is mentioned in several places in this book. It is called TOM SWIFT Sr. And His Aerial Firetruck.

About the Author

Victor Appleton II did not write any Tom Swift books in the five other series. He was many authors, not surprisingly men, who wrote for a single payment to a specific outline and short timeline. Some of these same authors wrote some of the early Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys stories as well.

Thomas Hudson, on the other hand, is real and has been working on this series—15 novels and counting as of December 2015—since late 2009. He has many other books, mostly collections of shorter stories set in the world of Tom Swift, along with several sort series dealing with his mother, father, and a mini-saga set mostly in a lunar colony.

He has been writing for school and work since about 1968 and for fun since the above date. So, if you treat this as a story problem and know he started in the 7th grade, what age is he now? You will not be required to show your work!
