Description: This book provides the primary care practitioner with an evidence-based approach and understanding to very common patient issues.
Purpose: The stated purpose is to help the clinician recognize the most common behavioral problems and the circumstances that evoke important behavioral responses, in addition to aiding the clinician in management of the problems based on sound evidence. These are worthy objectives without question, given the amount and frequency of behavioral health problems that present themselves to primary care physicians. The book meets its objectives in a well-organized concise format that is easy-to-read.
Audience: The stated audience is primary care physicians. This book could certainly be useful to medical students, physicians in general, and most non-physician healthcare practitioners as well. The editors and contributors seem to be credible sources on the subject matter of the book.
Features: The book is divided into three logical areas: normal life problems, difficult encounters, and psychological problems. Each area is fairly thorough for the average primary care setting and discusses practical concerns and management ideas. In addition, case examples highlight the clinical aspects of the book.
