Purpose: This book has identified articles in critical care literature that have contributed to change in practice and places this work in the context of other prominent papers produced in the early 21st century.
Audience: This book is appropriate for providers in the broad disciplines of critical care as well as specialists in injury, neurologic critical care, nephrology, infectious disease, and respiratory care. It is written by select content experts, most of whom are based in North America. A team of editors represent leading medical schools in the eastern United States.
Features: The book presents 50 papers selected as landmark contributions during the 21st century as chapters with an annotated list of related important publications intended to answer the question addressed in the "landmark paper." Chapters presenting groups of papers are divided into sections according to common critical care topics beginning with cardiopulmonary issues followed by renal concerns, gastrointestinal disease, infectious problems, endocrine disorders, neurologic conditions, and critical care hematology. Final chapter groups feature trauma organized by body region, burns, nutrition, and telemedicine.
