James and Ruth LaRocca clarify the impossibly multifaceted subject of wireless technology and do an excellent job of explaining the IEEE-standards process, 802.11 and its alphabet of working groups (a through i). Best of all, they compress IEEE 802.11 into an organized and lucid overview of the technology that, taken together with their coverage of other wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, IEEE 802.15 & 16, and 3G (to name but a few), make this a must-have comprehensive guide. They also address the wireless market; architectures and security; and, briefly, implementation. Finally, the authors provide a "bird's-eye" view of how the technology is being used in real-life applications today.
