Overview

First published anonymously on January 10, 1776, 'Common Sense' both challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy and presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule. The plain language used by Paine spoke directly to the people in America and was the first such work to openly advocate independence from Great Britain.

This edition by KyAn Publishing features a linked Table of Contents as well as full chapter and section navigation. Please note that this is not the standard Project Gutenberg text. It is a new, complete, and accurate transfer of a 1910 edition and is free of errors and omissions.
