About the Author

Doug Baker is the great-great grandson of William Henry Baker. He has always been a history buff, and is proud to have brought William Henry’s Civil War experiences to life in this book.

Publishing William Henry’s diary has been a Baker family project that’s taken a century. Doug’s great grandfather Roscoe and his siblings began the transcription project from the original handwritten journals in the early 1900’s. Roscoe passed the project to his son Merle, who passed it to his son David, who passed it to his son Doug. As David’s life was winding down, he asked Doug to complete the project. He agreed and after four years of painstaking work, everything William Henry wrote by hand was typed into a document and ready for print.

Doug was born and raised in Wisconsin. He is an IT consultant with a BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA from the Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He lives with his wife Steffi in Utah.
