About the Author

Alan John Mayer was born in Casablanca, Morocco, and grew up along the North African and European Mediterranean. At the age of eleven, he moved to the United States with his parents. Before graduating from high school, he had attended eleven schools in eight countries on three continents.

Fourteen thrust him into a series of homes, the fourth in Germany’s Ruhr Valley, the heart of Europe’s coal mining country. With a sixth grade German vocabulary, he was enrolled in eleventh grade science, biology, and chemistry classes, lectured in German. Lost again, he escaped to his favorite aunt’s house in the country. On his lawn care and paper route savings in the States, she arranged for him to visit her former classmates who had emigrated to several European capitols following the end of World War I.

At twenty-three, Alan began a new life in Southern California, and a journal. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater and Television Production from the University of California Irvine, a Multi-lingual K-Adult Teaching Credential from the University of California, both with honors, a Practitioner’s license from Ernest Holmes College of Religious Science in Los Angeles, California, and acted in several stage, film, and television roles during the 1990’s.
