Audience: The target audience includes nonoperative practitioners such as primary care physicians and physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, as well as trainees such as nonsurgical residents and medical students. The book does not provide sufficient detail on the treatment of shoulder pathologies to function as a reference for surgeons or surgical residents. However, the book is certainly of interest to its target audience, as it serves as an easy-to-use clinical tool for diagnosing shoulder pain. The authors are primarily rehabilitation physicians and experts in treating shoulder pathology nonoperatively. They are well-suited to publish on this topic.

However, the illustrations provided are well-curated and enhance understanding of the material. The final pages of the book contain an index which is quite helpful in navigating the text. The primary shortcoming of the book is the lack of detail on treatment. Many readers will be seeking guidance on treatment of shoulder conditions, such as medication options and dosing, physical therapy protocols, and specialty referral recommendations. This book does not provide such detail and readers must look elsewhere for treatment guidelines.
Assessment: This book is valuable to the target audience, clinically useful, and easy to read. It is similar to Handbook of Fractures and Netter's Concise Orthopaedic Anatomy as far as serving as a pocketbook text that provides a broad review of common clinical topics.
