Overview

Our class has been studying Early Colorado history and the communities that have lived here over time. For four months, students engaged with resources that addressed multiple Colorado State Standards. These resources allowed students to analyze information through multiple perspectives. They studied the Ute tribes, homesteaders, miners, mountain men, and members of the US army to better understand the culture and use of resources used by these communities. Each topic was also compared to four of our five school character traits: respect, compassion, self-discipline, and integrity. For our fifth character trait, craftsmanship, students wrote a fable. Classes have analyzed multiple types of fables from various cultures to better understand the structure of fables, as well as to gain a respectful understanding of how stories can help inspire us to celebrate the history of communities. Over these months, students applied their learning of Colorado history, PPSEL character traits, and fable structures to create their own fables that reflect a topic from history with a moral that reflects a character trait.
