Overview

Overlook is proud to present four more antic selections from comic genius, P.G. Wodehouse. A Damsel in Distress is an early novel about the aristocratic Marshmoreton family-a precursor to the Blandings series. Leave It to Psmith is a comedy adventure involving crime and gunplay, and Mulliner Nights is a series of stories about the inimitable Mr. Mulliner. Meanwhile, Lord 'Chuffy' Chuffnell borrows the services of Jeeves in Thank You, Jeeves.

Author Biography: P.G. Wodehouse (1881-1975) was born in Surrey, educated in London, and spent much of his life in Southampton, Long Island, becoming an American citizen in 1955. In a literary career spanning more than seventy years, he published more than ninety books, twenty film scripts, and collaborated on more than thirty plays and musical comedies.

When Maud Marshmoreton throws herself unexpectedly into George Bevan’s cab in London, he falls instantly in love with her. However, Maud is in love with a mysterious American she met in Wales. Maud’s aunt, Lady Caroline Byng, wants Maud to marry her stepson, Reggie. But Reggie is in love with his father’s secretary, Alice. When George turns up at the Marshmoreton estate with an American accent, confusion ensues. Jonathan Cecil reads this comic tale of mistaken identity and love triangles with humor and impeccable timing. Although the American accents are sometimes wobbly, the British actor has the perfect rhythmic cadence to bring this cheery British trifle to life. A.B. © AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine
