Jim Golding has been active in photography and photojournalism for more than 30 years. Majoring in journalism at Ohio University, a photojournalism course sparked his avid interest, though he took his first pictures at age nine.
There followed other photojournalism and general photography training through the Department of Defense Information Officers School, the New York Institute of Photography, DVD courses presented by National Geographic photographers and other professional photographers mentioned earlier.
As a public affairs and information officer in the U.S. Air Force, he contributed photos used in official publications. After leaving the Air Force he pursued a journalism career as a news reporter, feature writer and editor with daily and weekly newspapers, and other publications in Texas, Massachusetts, and New York, while also contributing news and feature photos.
Parallel to those positions and activities, his photographic activities included sports coverage -- ranging from high school football to the Dallas Cowboys and Cotton Bowl College Championship games, and professional rodeo events -- to news events of national, state, and local interest, crime, natural disasters such as hurricanes, and other subjects.
In 2021, he contributed photos used in a segment of “60 Minutes” on CBS relating to the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
He has also edited and designed newspaper, magazine, newsletter and brochure-format publications and is a member of the International Freelance Photographers Organization.
