Overview

As the Master of Ceremonies was introducing her with words of praise, a businessman on her right whispered, If you were my wife, you would be home, where you belong, having babies. This quotation reflects the variety of reactions of men to Dr. Belts intrusion into the men only field of finance.

"A First Lady of Finance" is the heartwarming, true life story of a farmers daughter, who, in spite of much adversity, defied tradition by overcoming much chauvinistic discrimination during the 1950s and 60s. While pursuing her dreams, she garnered many firsts for women along the way.

At various stages of her career, Dr. Virginia McKemie-Belt became:
- First lady on an all-male staff at CSUs School of Business
- First spokeswoman for the American Bankers Association
- First lady professor to be featured on the TV show This is Your Life
- First woman of business to be listed in Whos Who of 1000 Women of the
world along with Queen Elizabeth, Madame Curry, and Cleopatra.

If you enjoyed TV series like Little House, The Waltons, or Dr. Quinn youll love this book because each chapter leaves you wanting to read the next installment. As you read this page turning tale about the tenacity of this pioneering woman, youll be inspired to follow your own dreams. Youll learn all about the economic history of the 20th century without knowing youre being taught. You will laugh a lot, cry a little, fume frequently, and rejoice in victory as she makes her way through the glass-ceiling.
