Overview

I would pay far more than what he asks to keep my family alive.
And in Monticola, we all grow up far faster than we ought.

Daily life in Monticola is harsh for Pia and her family—and even harsher for the weak. Every day is a struggle to put food on the table and keep her sister's illness at bay while her father drinks away their coin.

Together with her brothers and mother, Pia works hard to keep her family safe and warm. Only through their combined efforts, can twelve-year-old Pia keep her family from being kicked out of their home.

Yet as her sister's treatments get more expensive, all with the hopes of forever curing her, Pia is forced to desperate actions to keep her family together and safe.

*This novella is a standalone extra to the Snow White inspired, Canens Chronicles series. This story takes place before Fog & Mist.

About the Author

Kelsie Engen spent her youth in North Pole, Alaska, a short way away from Santa Claus' house. It was a unique youth, suffering negative fifty degrees every winter only to be rewarded with ninety above and constant daylight in the summers. Her eclectic interests led her to pursue an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's degree in Microbiology. Now she stays home with her two kids, dog, and cats and writes frantically whenever her children are asleep.

Kelsie is constantly at work on new things spanning a variety of topics. Among them: fairy tales, England, Alaska, running, family life, heartbreak, and hope. Follow along with her writing journey at KelsieEngenAuthor.com or on her writing blog at kelsieengen.com, where she blogs as often as her children allow. Currently, she is writing a fantasy series loosely based on Snow White, Cinderella, Aladdin, and Sleeping Beauty.
