A Girl of the Commune
A Girl of the Commune recounts the adventures of lovers Mary Brander and Cuthbert Hartington as they try to recover a lost estate in Paris in the 1870s. Their adventures are set against the episode of the Commune, a radical government elected in March, 1871, to run Paris. After 72 days, the French national government overthrew the Commune violently, resulting in Paris burning for a week and thousands of Commune followers slaughtered on its streets. The book was published in the U.K. at the same time as in the U.S. The U.K version was entitled "A Woman of the Commune: A Tale of Two Sieges of Paris."
