Overview

Gardening in Colorado certainly presents its challenges. Our Colorado climate and weather changes from one extreme to the other, sometimes quite rapidly. This booklet provides information on prepping, planting and maintaining dryland flowers, shrubs and trees for zone 5.
Growing plants which survive and thrive in our natural climate and weather helps conserve our water, promotes soil health and improves our air quality. It might seem counter-intuitive to plant when water is scarce, however, watershed and vegetation work together in our water cycle. Plants help the soil retain water, work with the soil to clean water, add nutrients, assist with erosion control and so much more!
The plants and shrubs listed in this book tend to do well in hot bright sun; grow in a variety of soils sandy, silt, soils with good drainage. They have minimal water requirements once established and do well in the hot sun to part shade. These plants and shrubs can tolerate our extreme weather and even thrive in it!
