A Life for a Life: One of them has to go...
My wife or my mother? My mother or my wife?

Mum's had a stroke and needs somewhere to recuperate. I'm hardly going to turn her away. Much as my wife would like me to.

I really can't understand the depth of their animosity. Yet it's always been the same – this treacherous divide between my Danielle and Mum with me and the poor kids stuck in the middle.

Normally, I'm able to maintain the fragile balance that keeps them at arm's length from each other, but now they're being forced under the same roof.

So it's make-or-break time.

It doesn't take long for the situation to descend into chaos. Every time my back is turned something seems to happen.
To begin with, it's impossible to know who to believe. Before long, however, it becomes clear which of the two of them I need to protect from the other.

And how little I really knew either of them...

Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Daniel Hurst and Frieda McFadden, this gripping novella unveils a new layer of suspense on every page.

About the Author

Interview with the author…

Q: Where do your ideas come from?

A: I’m no stranger to turbulent times, and these provide lots of raw material. People, places, situations, experiences – they’re all great novel fodder!

Q: Why do you write domestic thrillers?

A: I'm intrigued why people can be most at risk from someone who should love them. Novels are a safe place to explore the worst of toxic relationships.

Q: Does that mean you’re a dark person?

A: We thriller writers pour our darkness into stories, so we're the nicest people you could meet – it’s those romance writers you should watch…

Q: What do readers say?

A: That I write gripping stories with unexpected twists, about people you could know and situations that could happen to anyone. So beware…

Q: What’s the best thing about being a writer?

A: The lovely readers. I read all my reviews, and answer all emails and social media comments. Hearing from readers absolutely makes my day!

Q: Who are you and where are you from?

A: A born ‘n’ bred Yorkshire lass, hurtling towards the ripe old age of 50, with two grown up sons and a Sproodle called Molly. (Springer/Poodle!) My 40’s have been the best: I’ve done an MA in Creative Writing, made writing my full time job, and found the happy-ever-after that doesn’t exist in my writing - after marrying for the second time just before the pandemic.

Q: Do you have a newsletter I could join?

A: I certainly do. Go to www.mariafrankland.com to join my awesome community of readers. I’ll send you a free novella – ‘The Brother in Law.’
