A LONE MAN is based on a true story of a boy who rose from nearly hopeless conditions to become a multimillionaire. Orphaned in an Indian attack in the 1850's, Fred survived years in the arid desert of New Mexico, with only his dog for company. His life was one of hardship laced with adventure. His intrepid spirit survived near drowning, hungry days in a flooded cave, captured by Indians and being swindled by drifters. He was by turns a horse doctor, a prospector, a homesteader and a wealthy landowner. The author met Fred when Fred was in his 90's. He was a simple man whose life had taught him to give more and expect less, to free his mind from worries and free his heart from hate. This book is the story of his life, the accounts of his rise from a bleak and lonely beginning to a life filled with peace, prosperity and love.
