A Pilgrimage of Pests
When his stink pile of tasty tidbits is washed away by a furious storm, the cantankerous Cockroach is forced to travel from his home in Meadowfield to the distant and foreboding Smoking Hills; where countless numbers of tidbits are rumored to be there for the taking. The only problem, it's also where the dreaded Loomers live; legendary creatures known only through stories passed down from the dead ancestors.

With a lively and incredible cast of pests, including the scheming Silverfish, the bashful Stinkbug, the brilliant Book Louse, and Scarab the Dung, just to name a few, this creative adventure is full of humor, intrigue, and genuine scientific insight into the behavior of insects as told through a fictional tale. The reader is not only thoroughly entertained by the interaction and antics of the "bug-fellows", but will come away with a whole new way of seeing the world of insects and imagining how our six-legged Arthropods might really think.

The Pilgrimage of Pests is the first book in the "Cockroach of Meadowfield" trilogy for the middle reader.

About the Author

Bradford P. Ward’s writing career began many years ago with the rollout of the blockbuster novel, Buffalo Bee (actually seven pieces of his father’s business stationary stapled together and drawn on when he was five).

Growing up surrounded by the beauty of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, Bradford spent much of his childhood years exploring the beach, the back bay and the sea oat covered dunes where he could let his imagination run wild. His appreciation of the natural world developed on these Florida shores. And when he wasn’t on the beach, he was at his desk, the dining room table or on the porch; cartooning and/or writing his many story books.

After graduating from the University of South Florida with a degree in Zoology and a teaching certification, Mr. Ward began a 36 year teaching career; the perfect way to pass on his love of science to future generations. As a high school teacher in Tampa, he taught honors biology and honors anatomy and physiology, coached softball and swimming and earned his National Board Certification.

His passion for writing, from the age of five, stayed with him; and using his knowledge of zoology, and entomology in particular, he conjured up the insect world of Meadowfield which he has introduced in his first children’s book, A Pilgrimage of Pests. The sequel, The Great Cicada Ball, which is currently in the editing stage and the final book, Heroes of Meadowfield, completes the Cockroach of Meadowfield trilogy.

Bradford lives in Brandon, Florida with his wife Diane and their two dogs, Lucho and Layla. Now happily retired, Bradford is also a Master Gardener. When he isn’t working his garden, traveling or working on his next book, he makes presentations for libraries, gardening events and Master Gardening classes on how to grow and maintain a garden filled with healthy, organic vegetables and fruits.

Welcome to Meadowfield,

Bradford P. Ward
