Audience: The audience includes any physician interested in incorporating these laser procedures in their practice. Although Dr. Rebecca Small is not a dermatologist, this is one of the best clinical laser procedural books published.
Features: The book carefully outlines precautions to consider, important points to include and discuss in the informed consent, and how to properly evaluate patients and choose appropriate treatment settings. Many useful tables contrast the differences between similar devices. Many clinical color photographs illustrate before and after results from various lasers. It also covers precautions to take with certain skin types. The discussions of laser physiology are well written and not weighed down with extraneous pedantic detail. It prepares readers for all the aspects of using various lasers in practice. It is very complete and thorough.
Assessment: This is one of the best laser books I have encountered. I highly recommend it to all dermatology residents in training and anyone who wants to learn how to use lasers. The appendix contains lists of vendors of equipment and medications, examples of patient instructional handouts, and consent forms. This is a valuable resource for any physicians considering implementing lasers in their practice.
