Overview

The Anthony Award-winning author of the smash hit Sookie Stackhouse novels crafts a powerful tale of violence and justice. After a modeling stint in New York, Nickie Callahan returns to Tennessee hoping to enjoy the sweet, easy life. But soon a sexual predator strikes close to home, and Nickie finds herself casting a suspicious eye at every man she knows. Desperate to stop the brutality, Nickie decides to take matters into her own hands. "Compelling . powerful ."-Boston Globe

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

This 1984 thriller received praise, although the plot is strictly B-movie fodder. Nickie Callahan returns to her small Tennessee town after a stint as a New York model. Her homecoming is sullied by a string of brutal attacks against a number of women, and she decides to track down the assailant and take revenge (just call her Dirty Nickie).

Booklist

Severn House continues to publish hardcover editions of Harris' early paperback orginals. This time it's a southern gothic, featuring a strong female lead in her late twenties. Former model Nickie returns to her hometown to finish college and moves in with her best friend from boarding school. But coming home means more than going back to school as she must deal with her estranged parents and confront her long suppressed feelings for her best friend's older brother. Matters are complicated by the presence of a rapist on campus who attacks both Nickie and her advisor. Convinced that the assailant is someone she knows, Nickie sets out to track him down. Mixing a touch of romance with a suspenseful thriller plot, Harris turns out a top-notch read with wide appeal to genre fans. She doesn't hesitate to tackle tough issues head-on; her college-town setting is realistically and evocatively portrayed; and her cast of characters is nicely multidimensional. Harris is due to conclude her wildly popular Sookie Stackhouse series later this year. At that point, she might want to consider a return to stand-alones.
