About the Author

Jan Blok’s career began in horticulture, steered by his love of plants. He obtained his N.Hort. Diploma at the Durban campus of the then Technikon Natal, after which he worked in the cut flower industry in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal and later in The Netherlands. On his return to South Africa, Jan pursued his passion for garden design and, in 1995, founded Blok Designs. Considered one of South Africa’s foremost garden designers, Jan’s innate sense of space and proportion, coupled with his intuitive ability to rework the land into an impressive landscape, has garnered him many awards. His seemingly effortless designs belie his proficiency and the attention to detail that he affords each assignment. Jan’s designs feature regularly in the local and international media. His designs have a broad appeal and his client base extends to Europe. He is married to Susan and they have two children, Ethan and Hannah. They currently reside in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
