About the Author

John Patrick McHenry was an American writer who lived in Mexico, where he started out working as a freelance artist, a bookseller, and manager of the Librería Británica. He was an infantry soldier in the Pacific and an Air Corps radioman in World War II. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University in 1949 and, following graduation, lived in Paris for a year, painting and writing and traveling in Europe. McHenry then went on to teach at the American Institute of Cultural Relations in Mexico City.
