Overview

A Simple Love Story Between Me and Myself is the story of “Jo” a person who struggles through life with gender dysphoria but eventually finds her peace with herself. The story gives hope to those who are struggling within themselves while simultaneously bringing insight to those who do not understand how difficult this personal struggle can be.

One of Melisa Mel’s favorite quotes is “be who you be.” Her brother, Keith Gabriel, said this to her many years ago and the words have come to mean a lot to her. She has quoted him various times in her publications, including this one.

Melisa Mel feels that there is no reason that we cannot ALL “be who we be.” She states, “There is ample room for everyone and everything on this lovely planet we all share. How we share the space is up to each and every one of us. There is no reason we cannot make it work peacefully if we choose to do so.”

This story has a message for everyone. It is appropriate for all ages and all peoples. Enjoy!

About the Author

MELISA MEL continues to use her work, publications, and philanthropy in her constant efforts to help bridge the gaps of understanding that relate to vulnerable populations. Her accomplishments as an author, trainer, keynote speaker, educator, and CEO/President of From Victim to Survivor, LLC are nationally known. During her years spearheading an LGBT club in the public school system, Melisa Mel was the only educator that was publicly "out" in her area at the time. It was a small rural community. The community had many mixed emotions about her being gay. Some people were extremely encouraging and open-minded. However, others publicly attacked Melisa Mel in nasty emails and letters in the local paper. Melisa Mel faced these attacks with dignity. Melisa Mel felt that it was important to be "out" so that the community could see that she was no different from anybody else. She especially felt this was important so that she could be a positive role model to the youth she worked with in her club. Realizing that no matter where one goes, there are "haters", her message was always loud and clear through her words and actions - "Although we cannot control how the "haters" act or think, we can certainly choose how we handle their misplaced hatred." Melisa Mel hopes this publication will reach many hearts and bring inner peace to many.
