A Single Life to Live: Stop Waiting for Your Life to Begin and Thrive Where God Has You Today
Hannah Schermerhorn was months away from getting married when her wedding was called off. She absolutely loathed being single again, but in the following years, God taught her many hard lessons that transformed her from bitterness to authentic joy. Now she shares what she's learned from other singles (who wish they weren't).

Drawing from the diverse experiences of single people in the Bible, Hannah debunks common myths and misunderstandings about singleness, including the pervasive feeling that a person can't really begin their life until they're married. She guides the lonely, hopeless, and impatient through the internal battles they face and the external pressures they feel in order to discover that a single life is a life worth living, and it's worth living well.

God has a special purpose for singleness, whether it lasts only a season or for a person's whole life. Let Hannah help you discover God's best for you in your single life.

Blogger Schermerhorn probes the ups and downs of Christian singlehood in her earnest debut. After a gutting college breakup, the author embarked on a quest to understand the purpose of heartbreak, concluding that “God keeps us in waiting rooms so that He can advance His glorious plans for our lives.” Drawing on stories of “Biblical bachelors/bachelorettes,” the author extracts lessons about navigating singlehood, such as that one should not “let the weight of your circumstances crush you” but rather “use that weight to get stronger,” and become “the person that God created you to be.” Employing a bridge metaphor in which the reader is the road, the cars passing over are their short-term connections, and the bridge pillars are their community, Schermerhorn underlines the importance of maintaining strong social and communal bonds while looking for love. And instead of lamenting singleness, the unattached are urged to invest in strong Christian communities and seize the “opportunity to follow... dreams without the constraint of a relationship.” Schermerhorn’s vulnerability and directness are refreshing, and her practical advice and cheerleading about God’s timing should resonate with like-minded readers. Believers will welcome this down-to-earth take on single life. (Feb.)
