Overview

To most people, Wisconsin's Door County doesn't go beyond the peninsula. What awaits the Maloney family as they take a short ferry ride to explore Washington Island and another, even shorter ferry ride to Rock Island's lighthouse and loop trail?

Fish boils are a colorful Door County tradition, and Washington Island offers a less-crowded version than its mainland neighbors to the south. During the fish boil, the twins' Dad offers his own colorful story that matches the flames of the overboil.

Children and their parents will enjoy learning about how lighthouse beacon lights can travel so far, and other interesting scientific and many other facts of nature, in BioFables book five in this full-color series.

About the Author

Gucwa’s 40+ years of management consulting and several years as a research biochemist before that laid the foundation for BioFables’ Science/Technology elements. These career experiences also contributed to Gucwa’s philosophy that coupling these “hard” knowledge elements with an understanding -- and application -- of Society and Self (so-called “soft” skills) is a powerful recipe for the balanced and fulfilling life she hopes her BioFables readers will achieve.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois Institute of Technology and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. She has been a member of the Institute of Management Consultants since 1983 and earned Emeritus status in 2023.
