About the Author

The author is an 85-year-old New Yorker endowed with a marvelous memory inherited from his father John Aloysius Gallagher, fortified with a lifetime of records and pictures to keep his memory refreshed. Although lacking a formal college degree, he graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in Astoria, New York City, in 1950 and went on to one semester of college before entering active army service as a National Guard soldier during the Korean War. His formal education was sporadic and as a veteran he took advantage of the G. I. Bill and went on to attend, but never completed, college. As his career advanced, requiring him to relocate as he grew, the Gallagher’s lived in New York, Chicago, Cincinnati and Pennsylvania. Since his childhood the author has been an avid reader of fact over fiction, which he always found to be much more interesting. He and his wife are library advocates and are familiar faces in libraries in both Pennsylvania and Florida. The author and his wife of 60+ years live in the Philadelphia suburbs while spending winters in sunny Florida.
