Overview

Sit in as the logical-minded journalist and the "caretaker of the soul" consider the human condition together ... Offering a powerful antidote to postmodernist convictions about "what is," Bert Hellinger has gone on record for his view that relationships have an identifiable-indeed an inviolate-structure. In this volume, a record of journalist and editor Gabriele ten Hovel's probing interview with Hellinger, he sheds new light on his unique use of family constellations to reveal hidden, often destructive, family dynamics and to activate healing resources. As ten Hovel and Hellinger's extraordinary dialog builds, the power of Hellinger's approach begins to unfold. Clinicians may find that they take away little gems, or they may find that their thinking undergoes a major shift. Either way, these conversations will enrich one's thinking. Helm Stierlin, M.D., Ph.D., wrote about Hellinger's work, "I know of no other psychotherapist who, during the last decade, has so positively impressed people-and has stirred up so much controversy." Hellinger's other books include Love's Hidden Symmetry: What Makes Love Work in Relationships, and Touching Love.

About the Author

Bert Hellinger, a German therapist, lectures worldwide on his approach to work with families. He acknowledges several influences on his life and work: his parents, whose faith immunized him against accepting National Socialism; his 25 years as a priest, particularly as a missionary to the Zulu; and his participation in interracial, ecumenical training in group dynamics. However, it was in his later training in family therapy that he first encountered the family constellations that have become the hallmark of his work.
