Description: In this updated edition on wound management, the authors focus on a wider audience to insure a multidisciplinary approach and a broader base of understanding of wound care.
Purpose: The book focuses on the importance of a multidisciplinary approach using evidence-based outcome practice.
Audience: Registered nurses, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, physical therapists, physicians, and physician assistants are the intended audience. The authors describe themselves as "experts in their field with an active clinical practice." The contributors are from various organizations, academic and practice, with varying levels of educational preparation.
Features: The book is divided into sections, starting with development of a wound care team, a discussion of anatomy and physiology of normal skin, and how damage and alteration in skin and tissue occur. The types of wounds and the etiology of wound development are covered with specific management. Color illustrations, depicting primary and secondary wounds, along with black-and-white illustrations, are kept to a minimum. The authors provide resources at the end of each chapter.
Assessment: I would recommend this book to nurses involved in wound care. Most nurses and other healthcare providers are exposed to and expected to manage a variety of wounds. The third edition streamlines the content to avoid replication and increases the number of color plates.
