Addiction Recovery with Yoga: Using the Koshas for Healing

The koshas are a model of the five layers, or aspects of the human. Similar to "body, mind and spirit", this way of looking at the person divides this idea into five rather than three: body, energy, emotions, wisdom and spirit. Recovering from addictions is difficult: behaviors as hard as substances to overcome. The 12 Step programs give us tools that no other modality provides. The physical is overlooked in that program, however, once the addictive process has been addressed. Yoga reaches out to take up the recovery process. In addition yoga has philosophy and tools to enhance and reframe recovery teachings and can help maintain recovery; in fact may help prevent relapse. Read this step by step book to get a deeper understanding of this facet of yoga: the koshas, and see how the yoga therapy tools can help the quality of your recovery.

About the Author

I am a person in recovery and yoga teacher. I teach people in recovery in various venues - from jails to studios. I present workshops on various subjects relating to yoga and recovery, lead teacher certification courses with Kent Bond, 500 ERTY, and work closely with Nikki Myers, 500 ERYT and the Yoga of 12 Step Recovery training's and classes. I play with clay, have a great family life and stay close to my recovery principles. I used to work in accounting, most recently in industry, and I was able to bring my yoga and recovery to my daily life there as well.
