Overview

This paper takes a look at the acts of artwork theft during WWII, and uses the documentary "The Rape of Europa" as a base of information.

First paragraphs of the paper:

When asked to reflect on the losses of World War Two we automatically conjure up images of death camps like Auschwitz and the extermination camp of Treblinka. Or we imagine the deaths and injuries that our troops and allies suffered during the major battles of Normandy or the Battle of the Bulge. But we most likely neglect to consider another loss that was inflicted by the Nazi Regime, one that continues to affect us today and has a much more devastating impact.

Few people understand or have a basic knowledge of the true damages caused by Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party. Few people grasp that he not only sought out to rule the people and land of Europe, but to erase thousands of years’ worth of culture and to reshape the human spirit. It was a world war not because of the number of countries involved, but because the Nazis threatened the culture of the world, and almost succeeded.
