About the Author

Terry D. Hargrave, PhD, LMFT, is the Evelyn and Frank Freed Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California. Dr. Hargrave is nationally recognized for his pioneering work with intergenerational families and for co-founding the field of Restoration Therapy. He has authored over thirty professional articles and fourteen books, including Restoration Therapy: Understanding and Guiding Healing in Marriage and Family Therapy (co-authored with Franz Pfitzer). His work has been featured on ABC News 20/20,Good Morning America and CBS Early Morning, as well as in several national magazines and newspapers.

Nicole E. Zasowski, MSMFT, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Connecticut, where she maintains a private practice. She is also a contributor to several publications, speaks regularly at local seminars, and recently co-authored Families and Forgiveness: Healing Wounds in the Intergenerational Family (2^nd Edition) with Dr. Terry Hargrave.

Miyoung Yoon Hammer, PhD, LMFT, is Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy and Chair of the Marriage and Family Department at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. As a medical family therapist, Dr. Hammer has been especially interested in applying the concepts and techniques of the Restoration Therapy model in her work with individuals, couples, and families affected by illness or disability, and minority populations.

Description: This new book from Terry Hargrave and his colleagues addresses the fundamentals of restoration therapy (RT), as well as interventions specific to the model. The theory comes to life through the use of therapy vignettes that are relevant for both those acquainted with the model as well as RT novices.
Purpose: According to the authors, the book is meant to introduce a newer model in the field of family therapy, one that the authors developed and matured for the past two decades. For clinicians who are already followers and practitioners of RT, it is a much-needed "textbook." For other clinicians working with couples, families, and individuals, it is an introduction to a modern model in family therapy, where the foundational systemic view meets attachment theory and neuroscience.
Audience: Mental health practitioners, both beginners and those more seasoned, can benefit from reading and studying this work. It can also successfully be used in graduate training programs, especially in the marriage and family therapy field, as one of the newer systemic models. Terry Hargrave is a well-known presenter, teacher, and mentor in couple and family therapy for decades. His work is recognized nationally and at conferences and trainings all over the world.
Features: The authors present their model step-by-step and through numerous practical examples, focusing not only on the description of RT but even more on the interventions needed to implement it. Important aspects of the therapeutic process such as safety and trust are emphasized, as well as the usefulness of mindfulness techniques.
