About the Author

Dan Anderson began his training in Kongsu-do (Korean karate) at the age of 14 years old in Vancouver, Washington, on November 18, 1966. His initial instructors were Loren Christensen and Mike Engeln. He continued his training and attained his black belt on January 15, 1970.

He found his first love in competitive karate. In the span of the next 35 years he worked his way up from being a regional champion to a national champion rated in the Top Ten fighters by Karate Illustrated magazine for a consecutive 4 years. In 1990 he won two gold medals at the Goodwill Games held in Seattle. He capped off his competitive career by winning a gold medal at the 4th Funakoshi Shotokan Association World Championships in 2004.

In 1980 he began to add Filipino Martial Arts to his skills under the famed Grand Master Remy Presas. Under Presas he became the only 6th Dan (degree black belt) Senior Master in the United States. After the passing of GM Presas in 2001 he sought to further his skills and studied under Manong Ted Buot in Balintawak Eskrima as well as trained with Guro Mark V. Wiley of Integrated Eskrima. In 2007 Prof. Anderson's MA80 System Arnis Eskrima was formally recognized by the International Modern Arnis Federation Philippines as a legitimate branch of Modern Arnis.

Prof. Anderson has taught seminars nationally and internationally, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Saudi Arabia, The Philippines and Canada. He has authored over 43 books and DVDs on the subjects of the martial arts. In 2012 prof. Anderson earned his promotion to 9th Dan by the American Karate Black Belt Assn.

Prof. Anderson teaches at Anderson Martial Arts in Gresham, Oregon. He has been instructing martial arts since 1969 with the last 29 years at his school in Gresham.
