Overview

It is naive to believe shadow government does not exist. But, when asked, the intelligence services will tell you there is no such thing as the deep state.

FACT: In 1996, Gary Webb, an investigative reporter with a credibility problem, presented evidence the CIA was helping the Sinaloa Cartel smuggle cocaine into southern California. His accusations gained traction until, in 2004, he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head... twice - or so the coroner ruled.

FICTION: (or not?) In 2016, Alex Katsaros was doing research on drug use in America for her boss, Senator Gavin Manson, when she accidentally uncovered a covert CIA plot to smuggle heroin into the U.S. from Afghanistan. Webb's "suicide" immediately leaped to the forefront of her thoughts. The Company does not take kindly to being outed... as Gary had so tragically discovered.

Now that she and Gavin know too much, the CIA has no intention of letting them live. On the run, Gavin and Alex must stay one step ahead of their pursuers or two-bullet suicides could be their fates, as well.

This fast-paced thriller is a seamless blend of fact and fiction that will keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing until the very end!

About the Author

Robert A. Coryell is a first-time thriller novelist and longtime reader and enthusiast of conspiracy theories. Some of them he actually believes. The deeper and darker they involve the seamy underbelly of shadow government, the more interested he becomes in determining their potential reality.

Most of his life was spent as a computer software engineer and data management consultant for Fortune 500 companies, working on NASA projects like the Space Station and Space Shuttle, playing golf between contracts, and threatening to write a novel. Thirty years of idle threats ended in the summer of 2017 when his excuses ran dry and his aging right hand began to scribble uncontrollably.

As a veteran of the Air Force and a decades-long employee of the military-industrial complex, Mr. Coryell knows all-too-well the secretive nature of covert and clandestine government operations; operations of which the public is often unaware or intentionally mis-informed. His novel, Afghan Horse, supposes one possible explanation for the explosion and proliferation of heroin in the United States following the invasion of Afghanistan in October of 2001. While the "deep state" will tell you there is no such thing, he begs to differ and sets before you a fictional tale of Central Intelligence Agency malfeasance that rings as true as Iran/Contra.
