Overview

John Alexander Dowie (1847-1907) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. His family moved to Australia and much of his early ministry took place in the land down under.
Dowie would later launch meetings in the western part of the United States mostly in California. This book is a compilation of the testimonies from many that were healed in Dowie's first meetings in the USA.

Dowie would eventually go on to be the founder of Zion City Illinois. He was also a prolific writer starting his own publication called Leaves of Healing which had a national following.

His calling was to bring back divine healing to the church. He fought vigorously for the right to pray for the sick as he was arrested illegally nearly one hundred times in a year for "practicing medicine without a license." Despite much persecution from the press, city officials, attorneys, and bitter clergymen, he was ultimately successful in proclaiming the great truth that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.

Dowie's life and ministry would come to a prideful and tragic end. Despite his regrettable ending, his ministry was a forerunner of many full gospel ministries in the generation to come. His ministry influenced the likes of John G. Lake, Lillian B. Yeomans, Martha Wing Robinson, Raymond T. Richey, Gordon Lindsay, and many others.
