About the Author

I was born in a small Southern Illinois town in the great Midwest in the late 1940s, at a time when there were no computers and kids like me. I spent most of my time playing outside. We had to use our imaginations to play games and explore the woods and a cardboard box was our best toy. We were a poor blue-collar family that had to think less about money and more about having fun. I had ten brothers and sisters, so we were taught to share. Our family was not associated with any Church, but our mother taught us good morals and to obey the law. My mother was our direct guardian angel, though I am sure she depended greatly on her spiritual strength to raise eleven kids independently. I had teachers tell me I was exceptional and made me feel better. My mother told me I was special because I was born with gray, long sideburns. My brothers and I would visit Churches from time to time and learn some Bible basics.
