By the eve of World War II, a special Anglo-American strategic foreign policy relationship had already been forged due largely to mutual interests and views about the Soviet Union's role in the Far East according to Kennedy (defense studies, Joint Services Command and Staff College, UK). The author examines this interwar bond contingent upon diplomatic relations, intelligence sharing, naval cooperation, and common values. Discrediting the "mistaken liberal notions" of historians critical of US lack of support for the British Empire in this period, he argues that, unlike the case in Europe, the US was a vital force in the Far Eastern balance of power jointly with England.
