PreS-Gr 2—Two sentences of simple text accompany each photo that introduces an aspect of spring. Among the more striking images are the germination of a seed (Planting) and a frog floating on a mass of eggs (Animals). Flowers identifies a number of common varieties and encourages readers to search for their own examples. Rain Showers notes the importance of precipitation to plants and animals. The books' small format will please beginners as they investigate the topics while gaining reading skills. The larger format and extra scientific information included in Capstone's recent "All About Spring" will work better for group sharing. VERDICT Consider where demand for nonfiction for the youngest readers is high.
