Particularly useful are the screening questions and instruments that can be used in a busy primary care practice. Appropriately featured in this guide are key chapters on geriatric anxiety disorders and anxiety due to general medical conditions. Highlighted "Pearls for the Practitioner" are concise and easy to locate. The last few pages contain helpful anxiety disorder resource references and a mental health glossary.
Assessment: This book meets its goals of assisting primary care providers in expanding their knowledge and improving their management of patients with anxiety disorders. The strength of this book lies in the chapters focusing on specific disorders, which cover each disorder thoroughly yet concisely. These chapters would be an excellent resource for quick reference, especially in between patient appointments, which is often the appeal of a pocket guide. Limitations of this book appear in the first few chapters, which, although they provide an accurate overview of anxiety and general treatment modalities, are rather detailed in light of the goal of this book. In addition, the chapter headings lack the prominence needed to orient the reader quickly. I would recommend this book to a primary care practitioner, at any level of training, who is aiming to better understand, diagnose, and treat patients with anxiety disorders.
