My highest praise for a book- I could not put it down but I wanted to do so because I did not want the book to end- especially without a sequel to curb my wish for more. The characters were fascinating with the sort of witty dialogue I love from the older 1940's movies- Nick and Nora reincarnated in some mid west anomaly of a town. Sure hope this is made into a movie.
I just finished reading this book and I think I'll read it again soon. It was fun and tawdry and the way the author will take a familiar expression and twist it just a little so you're surprised by where it went reminded me of Steve Aylett, another author who makes every word count. One of the chapters is a tale of a secret cabal which should exist, and probably doesn't, but just the possibility that it might will lift my spirits for a long time.
I love this book. It's funny, delightful, well-written, a great story, insightful, and an all around laugh out loud great read.
